MATERIAL CULTURE PROJECT

The Vancouver-based Material Culture Project, directed by Ian Shaw, is a twelve-person big band that has been exploring original compositions and lesser-known jazz standards for over a decade. Featuring local mainstays like Shaw on baritone saxophone, Adrian Smith and Norm Quinn on trumpets, and Sharon Minemoto on piano, their sound is a dynamic blend of intricate arrangements and powerful improvisations.
