Johann Sebastian Bach, a German Baroque composer, wrote his Concerto for Two Violins in D minor, BWV 1043, around 1730, a work often known simply as the "Bach Double". Canadian violinists Nikki Chooi, former concertmaster of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra and current concertmaster of the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, and Timothy Chooi, a professor at the University of Ottawa and winner of the 2018 International Joseph Joachim Violin Competition, are frequent collaborators. The Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, founded in 1919, is the largest performing arts organization in Western Canada and performs at the Orpheum. The intricate dialogue between the two solo violins in Bach's concerto creates a spirited conversation that is both intellectually enriching and emotionally engaging.
