VANCOUVER CHINESE MUSIC ENSEMBLE

The Vancouver Chinese Music Ensemble, established in 1989, stands as North America's first professional Chinese music group, performing traditional and contemporary arrangements. This collective of classically trained instrumentalists, including Jirong Huang on erhu and Yong Sun on dizi, released their debut album, Nine-Fold Heart, in 1994 on Ponchee Records. Their sound blends ancient melodies with modern compositions, showcasing the intricate textures of traditional Chinese instruments alongside Western influences.
