TZOMPANTLI

Hailing from Southern California, Tzompantli is the brainchild of Brian "Itztlakamayeh" Ortiz, also known for his work with Xibalba, and delivers a crushing blend of indigenous death/doom metal. Their sound, deeply rooted in Mesoamerican themes and rituals, first gained widespread recognition with their 2022 debut LP, Tlazcaltiliztli, released on 20 Buck Spin. Tzompantli masterfully integrates traditional instruments like huehuetl and teponaztli drums, shells, and death whistles into a foundation of brutal, percussive death metal and melancholic doom. Their recent 2024 album, Beating the Drums of Ancestral Force, further refines this unique approach, creating a powerful and immersive sonic experience. Expect a visceral journey through ancient lore and crushing sonic weight.
