THE BAD PLUS

The Minneapolis-formed jazz group The Bad Plus, founded in 2000 by bassist Reid Anderson, drummer David King, and pianist Ethan Iverson, quickly became known for their avant-garde approach to jazz, blending it with rock and pop influences. Their 2003 major label debut, These Are the Vistas on Columbia, showcased their distinctive style, including covers of artists like Nirvana and Aphex Twin alongside original compositions. The band, now a quartet with guitarist Ben Monder and saxophonist Chris Speed, released their self-titled album on Edition Records in 2022 and are currently on their farewell tour. Their sound is a dynamic interplay of intricate rhythms, expansive improvisations, and a powerful, often high-decibel, energy. Expect a sophisticated and adventurous musical journey.
