MYRA MELFORD SPLASH TRIO

Evanston, Illinois native Myra Melford, a Guggenheim Fellow and acclaimed avant-garde jazz pianist, leads her adventurous Splash Trio with bassist Michael Formanek and drummer/vibraphonist Ches Smith. Their 2025 debut album, Splash, released on Intakt Records, is the latest installment in Melford's ongoing body of work inspired by American post-abstract expressionist painter Cy Twombly. The trio's sound is a dynamic interplay of Melford's percussive piano, Formanek's agile bass work, and Smith's versatile drumming and vibraphone textures, oscillating between intricate compositions and free-wheeling improvisation. Expect an evening of intellectually grounded yet passionately exploratory jazz.
