San Francisco-based sound artist and inventor Victoria Shen, known as Evicshen, has spent over a decade pushing the boundaries of experimental electronic music, culminating in her 2020 debut LP, Hair Birth, on American Dreams Records. Her performances are a visceral exploration of sound's materiality, featuring analog modular synthesizers, self-built electronics, and even custom "Needle Nails" that allow her to play multiple record grooves simultaneously. Evicshen's sound eschews conventional harmony and rhythm for extreme textures and gestural tones, creating chaotic soundscapes. It's a challenging, deeply physical sonic experience.
