"And then I knew 'twas wind" is a 1992 chamber composition by the acclaimed Japanese composer Toru Takemitsu, written for flute, viola, and harp. The piece, inspired by an Emily Dickinson poem, showcases Takemitsu's later style, which often infused traditional Japanese elements into impressionistic soundscapes. His music in this work explores themes of nature, particularly wind and rain, through a delicate interplay of instrumental timbres and a nuanced harmonic palette. It offers a reflective and atmospheric listening experience.
